Teaching Assistant

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEN)
Pay Rate: £12.90 – £14.25 per hour
Location: Aston
Hours: Part-time, Monday – Thursday, 8:45am – 3:00pm
Contract: Ongoing

 

Smart Education is currently recruiting for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join an independent specialist provision in Aston. The college supports students aged 14–25 with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), ADHD, and Down’s Syndrome.

This is a part-time opportunity to support students through 1:1 sessions and small group work in a setting that promotes both academic and vocational development.

Job Requirements for this Teaching Assistant role in Aston:

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in supporting teaching and learning

  • Minimum 12 months of SEN experience (5 years UK TA experience preferred)

  • Experience supporting students with complex needs including ASD, SLD, and ADHD

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Experience delivering 1:1 and small group support

  • Valid enhanced DBS (Child and Adult Workforce) – on the update service or willing to apply

  • Passion for supporting vulnerable learners in a person-centred environment

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group teaching support to SEN students aged 14–25

  • Assist in delivering functional and creative learning programmes

  • Work closely with teaching staff to adapt resources to individual needs

  • Promote positive engagement, independence, and confidence in students

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

  • Record progress and feedback to the teaching team

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment
